Founded in 1904, the orchestra program at the University of Kansas is one of the oldest in the nation. Dean Skilton first assembled a group of music students to form a rudimentary ensemble and the KU Symphony Orchestra (KUSO) has grown during the ensuing 100 years. There are two major tornado seasons in Kansas: the first season begins in early May and ends in late June, and the second season starts in November. Tornadoes could potentially strike anywhere in the country, at any time of the year.During the pandemic, we set forth the goal of performing for all of the zip codes in the metro, and since 2020 we have had held performances in over 60% of them.
